Plan your visit with some handy need to know information

With answers to Frequently Asked Questions, local knowledge, and some handy hints and tips, your adventure is off to a flying start

Is Lavendale Dog-friendly?

Yes! Lavendale is dog-friendly, including an extensive garden.

We just ask that furry friends are kept off the furniture and out of the bedroom. Two medium sized dog crates are available upon request.

We also ask that you clean up after your fur-babies, leaving the property and garden as you found them for other guests to enjoy.

Is there a fee for dogs?

Yes, there is a £20 per night fee.

It is charged per night, not per dog, so two well-behaved pooches are just £20 total per night.

This is due to the enhanced cleaning and laundering required.

Two medium sized dog crates are available upon request.

Are there local dog walks?

Orkney has many beautiful, dog-friendly walks, especially along its many beaches.

As much of Orkney is important habitat for ground-nesting birds, please keep dogs under control. Dogs should be kept on leads at RSPB reserves and historic sites. For walks on the doorstep, try:

  • Cuween Chambered Cairn
  • St Magnus Way
  • Firth Park
  • Binscarth Woods

When can we stay?

Lavendale is available to book all year round for weekly stays.

Check-in and checking out are generally on Saturdays.

Can we arrive on a different day?

Depending on availability, different lengths of stay or arrival days may be possible.

This is dependent on other bookings, as well as the availability of a cleaner, so is by mutual appointment.

Can we book a shorter stay?

Shorter stays are again dependent on availability and by mutual appointment, so get in touch and we will see if this is possible.

Shorter stays are unlikely during summer months.

What are the local amenities like?

For a little village of roughly 450 people, Finstown has a lot to offer!

Some of the local ammenities include...

Baikie's Stores

Open seven days a week, this wonderful general store is a true Aladdin’s Cave. Inside, you'll find all the everyday essentials alongside an impressive showcase of local produce—including fresh baked goods, artisan cheeses, island milk and butter, preserves, quality meats, and a great selection of local beers, ciders, and spirits (there’s even ice cream!).

Grab a fantastic cup of coffee while you browse, and if you can't find what you're looking for, the lovely local team is always happy to help.

Pomona Inn

You can never go wrong with a local pub!

Recently under new ownership, the Pomona is open Monday-Sunday every week and puts on regular events to bring the Finstown community together.

Baikie's Takeaway

Open Friday and Saturday evenings, Baikie's Takeaway offers the usual chip shop favourites - including locally caught Haddock.

Top tip for visitors: "Supper" in this context simply means "with chips" - So a Haddock Supper is a healthy portion of good old fashioned fish and chips!
