Sophisticated Island Accommodation Rooted in Heritage

About Lavendale

Built in 1956 with a touch of ingenuity—cleverly repurposed from two historic timber-framed homes—Lavendale is a cozy one-bedroom cottage perched high on Heddle Hill. Here, you'll wake up to stunning, sweeping views of Firth Bay and the North Isles.

Lovingly restored and thoughtfully updated, it truly feels like a home away from home.

We are proudly dog-friendly, featuring a sprawling garden and beautiful walking trails right at the doorstep. It’s a retreat your four-legged friends will love just as much as you do!

Meet "Stay Orkney"

Meet your hosts, Henry and Stevie. As a married couple working in the farming and visitor attraction sectors, we are now based in Aberdeenshire but our roots belong to Orkney.

Having grown up on the islands, we are deeply passionate about showcasing the very best they have to offer—from thousands of years of breathtaking history and dramatic landscapes to incredible local produce and vibrant culture.

We are committed to maintaining exceptional standards at Lavendale, and we're always delighted to help you discover the hidden gems that will make your Orkney stay truly unforgettable.

Our Story, Mission, and Values

Returning to our Orkney roots, Stay Orkney was created to provide a refined holiday experience that harmonises with Orkney’s remarkable natural beauty and historic significance. We aim to offer guests sanctuary with elegant comfort and a deep respect for local heritage, fostering memorable visits that celebrate this unique island environment.

About Finstown

Nestled into Firth Bay, the well-connected village of Finstown is perfectly situated midway between Kirkwall and Stromness. Excellent bus links and easy road access to both main towns and major ports make it the ideal, hassle-free base for your Orkney stay.

Steeped in its own history, Finstown is also less than a five-minute drive from the Heart of Neolithic Orkney. Plus, with the local Baikie’s Stores nearby—an "Aladdin’s Cave" of everyday necessities, local produce, coffee, and ice cream—you’ll have everything you need right on your doorstep.
